Jerry’s death was a great loss not just to he sci-fi community but also to the Prepper community. My sincere condolences to his family!

  2. Dennis J Perkins says:

My condolences to the Pournelle family and friends. I loved his books since I discovered him in 1981. I went back a few days later and bought every SF book of his in the store, and I bought every book of his since then.

I read his Chaos Manor column for years and then his blog when I discovered it. He was always interesting. I didn’t always agree but who wants to read someone who doesn’t challenge your thinking at times?

    We will miss him.

So sad to read of Jerry’s passing. on September 8th. I think one of the best interviews he gave was to Leo Laporte on the triangulation programme. check twit.tv/shows/triangulation/episodes/90
    and twit.tv/shows/triangulation/episodes/95.

He made an amazing contribution to all kinds of conversation. A true gentleman

  4. Charles Hamilton says:

Thank you Dr. Pournelle. As a reader of both your books and your “Chaos Manor” columns, I greatly appreciated your contribution to many topics related to science and technology, especially the evolution of computing and its impact on society over the past 6 decades. I was even able to hear your voice on several netcasts for TWIT (until quite recently). While time has finally caught up with you, I am thankful we had the many years of your life you were able to share with us. My condolences to your family.

  5. Mason Shaar says:

My condolences to Dr. Pournelle’s family. His contributions to us all — to space exploration, science, literature, and as a clear-eyed defender and advocate for freedom and his country — will be sorely missed and long remembered. Thank you, Jerry.

Jerry, from Logan’s Run to Man Kzin Wars and everything in between, I enjoyed and was inspired by your work. You are very much appreciated and we will all miss you.

Blessed Saint Leibowitz, keep’m dreaming down there.

    RIP old friend,

I’ve been an ardent follower for decades and never expected this! It brings a touch of sadness to life to realize that this great soul who could appreciate the world we share in such depth is gone. Knowing that he was also there added to the fullness of being alive. Reading his writings was always an enjoyment to be savored.

You are and long have been a STAR!

  11. Jerry Capizzi says:

I always looked forward to the next issue of Byte magazine to read Jerry’s article. Such a great loss to the computer industry and journalism.

  12. Bill Grigg says:

I’ve been a visitor to Dr. Pournelle’s website since he started it when Byte stopped production, and before that read his Chaos Manor column for many decades. He has always been an inspiration to me.

My condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and the world is much poorer from his loss.

  13. Timothy Sampson says:

  15. Joel Garmon says:

    Condolences to family and friends.

I have always enjoyed his books. As i got older, I realized that they were more than just great stories. They imparted messages. I began to read other writings of Dr Pournelle and learned what an impact he has had on the U.S. and science in general.

The world has lost a great man and leader. He will be missed. Who can take his place?

  16. Michael M. Miller says:

Thank you for your work, Dr. Pournelle.

Dr. Pournelle is long been one of my favorite speculative fiction authors, and, just today I had finished a re-read of “Go Tell the Spartans.” His words, philosophies, and “Co-Do” universe newly refreshed in my mind as I see this sad news.

Dr. Pournelle’s work, whether fictional writing, non-fictional writing and other contributions impacted thousands upon thousands of lives, encouraging thought, and wonder. He left the world better for having been in it, and that’s a legacy to be proud of.

Condolences to family and friends for your loss. Truly, a sad day.

  17. Jane Yolen says:

I am stunned. We were just on a panel together at DragonCon and at the same big dinner for the literary guests. And yes, he seemed much older (don’t we all!) and slower. Recovering from a variety of ills. But his sense of humor and brilliant mind were intact. He kissed my hand several times. Made intresting points on the panel.

    Stunned doesn’t half cover it.

Send my condolences to the family and hold you all in the Light.

    Jane Yolen

  18. Sonam Chauhan says:

Farewell Jerry – your writings were a delight to a teen discovering computing in the 90s. Till we meet (for the first time).

  19. Vernon King (Zed) says:

A thoughtful conservative always worth reading even if I did not agree. Grabbing the Byte when it first came out and going right to Chaos Manor. Just found an old Byte and re-read his column. A loss to all. My day will change now without looking for his words. Just went to my garage where I keep a classic S.F. collection and looked at what he wrote.

  20. Henry Mulder says:

Loved so many of his publications. Great sources of inspiration and vision. Sad to hear he passed away. But his publications stay. Let that be of some consolation.
