I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s death. I only met him once but he left a impression I have not forgotten after all these years, a
gentleman. The world is a darker place without him. He will be missed. My best to his family.
RIP
His awesome and imaginary works entertained & inspired me, and will live on. My condolences to his family & friends.
Jerry was kind and generous to me, and he will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.
Jerry Pournelle was a huge part of my life with his BYTE columns and SciFi writings – seriously I am very sad today and even though I know he had a “good run” damn!
RIP Jerry
🙁
Like many others, I first encountered Dr. Pournelle’s writings in Byte, back in the early 1980s. He piqued my interest in computers and software, and in other things, too. A very intelligent man, a thinker, and someone who applied a scientist’s mind to problems. I’ve always learned something from his writings. I even love his books.
Rest in peace, Dr. Pournelle, and my sincere condolences to his family. His was a well-lived life with a large circle of positive influence. Where will we find more like him?
My condolences to all who knew Jerry and will come to know him. Death is only the beginning of a more perfect and beautiful everlasting life.
My heartfelt condolences to his family. He has left us all a tremendous legacy in the body of his published works, both fiction and fact. Through his blog, he has been one of the few remaining beacons of the Enlightenment, shining a steady beam of rational thought and discourse over an increasingly ignorance shrouded world. I know I will miss him dearly.
My deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Pournelle. He has given me many, many hours of education and entertainment since I first read his work in the early ’70s. I was fortunate enough to have met he and Mrs. Pournelle once at a Science Fiction convention and I always will treasure the memory. My prayers are with you.
Saddened to hear this news. Followed him since Byte day. Always entertaining. My condolences to friends and family.
I’m so sorry. Reader since Byte’s times. My condolences to the family in the terrible moment. Goodbye Dr. Pournelle.
My condolences to Dr Pournelles family and friends. His writing both entertained and inspired me. The moat and a step farther out are the standout memories at this moment. I enjoyed his Column in Byte magazine for many years, in fact it was the only reason I bought the magazine in the years prior to it ceasing publication. I enjoyed his thorough and logical thinking and the clarity with which he expressed his ideas. It is a great loss to our culture, an utter tragedy to those closest. I wish you whatever comfort you can find in the months and years ahead.
Rest in peace — Good and faithful servant! Your wit and wisdom will be missed.
“Dr. P” has been one of my favorites since I encountered him in Galaxy, and then Byte. In my NASA days, I bought my first personal computer on his recommendation, not my colleagues. He was a true gentleman, patriot, and visionary. A life lived well, and well lived. His last poignant post, and his peaceful passing seem appropriate and deserved. My condolences to his family, and especially Mrs. Pournelle.
He has been a part of my literary life form the seventies in school. He will be missed.
So sad to hear of Jerry’s passing, shall miss his posts and musings on so many topics. A life well lived, thank you for sharing all these years. You will be missed.
He has left a hole in all of our lives that will never again be filled.
My condolences to you all.
im stunned. I have been a reader, a fan and follower for over 40 yrs. Dr Pournelle has always brought clarity, sanity and wit to everything he touched. I regret that I was never able to meet him in person. Fair wind and God Speed – Please accept my prayers for him and his family and my condolences.
Sincerely, John S
Reading the news was like taking a punch straight to the chest. I am glad to hear that he did not suffer, and enjoyed his last DragonCon.
I’ve had the pleasure and honor of seeing his comments and interacting with him at accordingtohoyt.com and will greatly miss his presence there.
RIP good sir.
I only know him from his appearances on This Week in Tech. He was very intelligent and brought something special to the show. I have often quoted him.
My condolences.
