When I first read the top of the site, I thought it a joke. Sadly, it isn’t. He was like a fixture of the universe; always there, always working to make this a better, smarter and stronger place. I’ve never had the privilege of meeting him except through his work. I have read and reread his work since he was publishing in Analog. I’ve enjoyed it all. He will be missed; not just by his family and his fans but by all those who come to his work and want more.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Ave atque Vale, Magister. I will forever treasure our all-too-brief chat, between the Marriott and the KC Convention Center last year.

Fair winds and following seas, and may we meet again in some Universe.

I saw Jerry Sunday after Sunday at St. Mary of the Angels in the early 1990s. I will always cherish those memories.

My thoughts are with the family; I know I’m going to miss Jerry. Though its been years since I had the opportunity to talk with him over a drink (and its been years since I had one) tonight I’ll drink a shandy in his memory.

I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. I grew up to n his BYTE columns and loved his books. I was a long time blog reader and early patron subscriber, because I always knew I would get a unique point of view that I found occasionally frustrating but always intelligently stated. My condolences to his wife and children and his many friends.

Dr. Pournelle was an inspiration to me. Such a great mind, lucid, powerul and coherent. His enormous enegy and indomitable desire to reach out to his readers, teach us, comfort us, has won him a lasting place in our hearts. I see him now in my mind’s eye, contemplating the wonders of creation, free of the bonds of earth, as he always wanted to be. I am sure he is full of joy, proud of a life well lived, and gathered to the glory of God, whom he loved truly and faithfully.
I will miss him very much.
