  3. Shelby Clark says:

I knew Jerry mostly as a reader of his stories, and somewhat from his columns and Chaos Manor, but also met & spoke with him a few times at Cons. He gave me much enjoyment as well as insight and food for thought, and I will always cherish my memories of him and his works.

  4. Jeff Stoner says:

I cannot imagine the internet without Dr. Pournelle. A great void has opened that cannot be filled by any other. He will be deeply missed.

I was very saddened to learn of Dr. Pournelle’s passing. I loved his work, particularly the brilliant collaborations with Larry Niven, and loved to listen to him on the TWiT podcast. My sincere condolences to his family, his friends, and his legions of readers and fans everywhere. And let flights of angels sing him to his rest.

  6. Brendan P Dooher says:

Many hours of my young adult years were spent reading the works of Jerry and his friend Larry. His thinking had a huge influence on how my views of the world developed. God be with him and with his family. It is a great loss.

  7. Randy Stafford says:

Jerry Pournelle taught me a lot in his anthologies and blog.

A modern Renaissance man. We won’t see his like again.

And, of course, he gave us some memorable stories.

    My condolences to his family.

  8. Kurt Brown says:

Checked this blog every day for years, and just recently re-read “The Mote in God’s Eye”, an all-time classic. Sad news indeed.

Another giant passes beyond the horizon.

  9. Lon Hildreth says:

    Condolences to the family.
I came to know of Jerry through his Byte columns and a friend who pointed me to The Mote in God’s Eye. I always enjoyed his appearances on Leo Laporte’s This Week in Tech. He was the best TWiT guest ever. He always had such great insight on current events and told tremendous stories. Whenever I visited his website, I would there for hours. He will be missed.

  10. Brian White says:

I attended DragonCon last week for the chance to meet Jerry and collaborator Larry Niven. I am so personally grateful I got this one chance to meet him.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

  11. Dana Crom says:

My condolences to Dr. Pournelle’s family and friends.

I was shocked to realize that I’ve been reading his work regularly for more than four decades. Starting with _Mote_, but I count his early Byte magazine columns for converting me from an occasional reader to a regular follower.

Thank you for many years of pleasure, and – many times over – forcing me to reassess my beliefs about technology, education, and politics. I’ll miss you.

  12. Victor Koman says:

Alex–so sorry for you. Your dad and I had our disagreements, but he was a wonderful guy, a great writer, and strong defender of Liberty. You know how good a father he was. Rest in peace.

  13. Craig Pawlisch says:

This is sad news. My condolences to his family and friends. I never met the man, but I was a long time reader, so it feels like a personal loss. I will miss his insights.

    Goodbye Jerry.
    God has taken you home.

Godspeed, Jerry, and thanks for decades of inspiration, encouragement, and help.

Roberta, Alex, Rich – I’m so sorry for your loss.

Godspeed, Sir. You wrote some of the finest science fiction novels of my life. The world is now a bit darker for your having passed, but was a great deal brighter for your having been here.

  18. Dwayne Sudduth says:

I met Jerry Pournelle in 2013 just as a personal favor from him. I am shocked and saddened, for we have lost a great mind and person that the world needed!
    Oh my!

  20. Clayton Barnett says:

I am devastated. My mentor, Steven Den Beste late last year, now Jerry. Were it not for the two of them in my life, I’d never have become a writer.

God! I’m Catholic… but this hurts so much!
