Dr. Pournelle asked to have this posted:
Monday Dec. 25, I had a stroke. I think my head is all right, and I am recovering. Alas I used to be a touch typist and I am now learning to be a two finger typist. At present I am a one finger typist. Call it 1.1 finger, but after today’s therapy , maybe 1.2; I am learning. I just made the Spock sign.
Started a ramble to post, but it is easy with Windows 8 to have what you write vanish. I will keep trying.
Please someone post in my blog that I am here and learning. The Surface works but learning to use it and Outlook 13
after a stroke is hard enough and I am clumsy. But I am trying and think I will recover. But it takes time. But I am coming back.

You’d better come back, good Sir!!! Lots more books to write, for starters!!!
Take care and God Bless…
Godspeed to you Sir!
Bless you, sir!
Hi Jerry,
Stubbornness is a valuable attribute during rehabilitation after a stroke. I’m delighted to see your progress so far. I thought you might find interesting this video about a Neuroscientist’s experience with her own stroke:

Jerry:
I tried using Windows8 last week for the first time.
I thought I was having a stroke, too!
Go back to XP. You’ll be just fine.

I don’t check Chaos Manor for a few days, and was surprised to see our good Doctor in hospital.
Get well soon, Sir!
Delighted to see you posting again. One or two fingers are enough.
Yeah! The lump didn’t defeat you and neither will this.
Get well have fun thinking of all the great things that are waiting for you to comment on with your particular wit and wisdom.
Our prayers are with you and your family.

Prayers and get well wishes from another long time reader.
I’ve kept you in prayer, sir. Can’t wait to see you hit your stride again.
I’m glad to see you back, Jerry. Stay tough, and keep pushing. During my RN years, I saw that the folks who persisted were the ones who never believed, “You can’t.”
You can.
Godspeed to a full recovery, Dr. Pournelle. So say we all.
Glad to read your words again. Keep up the effort and you will be back at it in no time. Our thoughts and prayers continue.
What a frustrating obstacle, but you and your wife and family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. All of us readers here are grateful for the updates and heartened by your progress and courage.
Godspeed on this challenging but rewarding (aside from the Windows 8/Outlook part) journey!
Wish you well from a long time reader and admirer,
Siro
God bless you Sir. My Dad never learned to touch type, but as a 2 finger typist used to clock 35 wpm.
Since his stroke, I’d say he currently handles ~25 wpm. Emails more now than he did when had his stroke 4years ago
Just keep up with the therapy. My best to Mrs. Pournelle as well
God Speed Dr. never give up.
It is a great thing to know you are doing well.
Be well my friend.
Get well soon, Jerry. I’ll be praying for you.
D’ya know Jerry I read a really early article by you in The General. I think it was about the addition of airpower rules to the AH game, Stalingrad. What stuck me was that you were probably a 1-finger typist then. So at 1.1, you have definitely improved over time….
Thanks for all the learning and looking forward to what’s next!
