Dr. Pournelle asked to have this posted:
Monday Dec. 25, I had a stroke. I think my head is all right, and I am recovering. Alas I used to be a touch typist and I am now learning to be a two finger typist. At present I am a one finger typist. Call it 1.1 finger, but after today’s therapy , maybe 1.2; I am learning. I just made the Spock sign.
Started a ramble to post, but it is easy with Windows 8 to have what you write vanish. I will keep trying.
Please someone post in my blog that I am here and learning. The Surface works but learning to use it and Outlook 13
after a stroke is hard enough and I am clumsy. But I am trying and think I will recover. But it takes time. But I am coming back.

Welcome back! I’m delighted to see you getting back on your virtual feet again. Here is to your complete recovery soon.
It’s great to hear from you again. You’ve been in my thoughts a lot and I’m glad you’re on the mend.
Take your time and get thoroughly better!
We miss you, but would prefer you fully recovered to pushing yourself too hard on our behalf. Your family and we need you back.
My wife and I, and my parents, are sending lots of good vibes and wishes your way. Good to hear about the quick improvements. We’re all looking forward to more of your words of wisdom.
Great to hear/see your post. Get better quickly, Jerry, you’ve got a lot of writing yet to do.

So happy, relieved and moved to read your post. I, and I venture so many, would be diminished without your continued wisdom on all things.
Great Progress. Keep up with the therapy and you will soon be typing up a storm. I was going through this almost exactly 15 years ago. Within 3 days, I was able to type with my left hand. The best therapy for me was playing freecell with a mouse using my right hand and I recovered my usual typing skill within a month. One month after my stroke, I was able to test drive a new Corolla with manual shift. Keep us posted on your progress.
