Alex Pournelle reports today on Dr. Pournelle’s current health status:
As of this morning, Dad is improving still. More motor skills, more speech improvement (at least to me). He is also annoyed at his inability to express himself by typing, though I suspect he will be back to banging away pretty quick, at least with 2 fingers.
Tomorrow starts the long term intensive physical therapy and then home adaptation. Will update as that happens.
Thanks again for all the good wishes.

Thanks for the update. I hope that Dr Pournelle has speedy recovery. He is one of the few authors about whom I would say that I liked every one of his many books.
Thanks for posting these updates, I’ve been reading Dr. Pournelle for a long time, I consider him a friend I’ve never met. I wish him a complete recovery.
My thoughts and prayers are with you!
Get well and God Bless. Merry Christmas!
how about this 1st second of Christmas day?
You folks have many good people thinking about you. May I offer an unconventional experiment in hopes of helping Jerry? In the very near future, post on this site a precise date/time GMT , for all of his friends to do a 2 minute global meditation to help heal Jerry, each visualizing his injured spot in his brain, and healing it. I did this a yoga class, years ago, for a person I never met with terminal cancer, she recovered in 6 days, and that was only with about a dozen people! I never forgot that, never done it since , maybe its time to give it a go again? My prayers and peace with you both.

You’re a tough man. May God grant you a full and speedy recovery. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Dr. Pournelle, As a kid, I loved your books. As an adult, I have read your column for years and I feel like your perspective has enlightened me and enriched my life. I wanted to thank you for your insight and wish you the best of health…
My prayers, best wishes and positive thoughts are with you, as well, I’m sure, as with the millions who read and enjoy your wit and work…Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Great news on the progress. Understand your frustration. my father in law was quite upset when he suffered a stroke in 2012. Sounds like your well on your way. I have no doubt with some occupational therapy you will be back typing away in no time.
Great news that you’re making good progress. I know that you will be determined to recover from this and we are all wiling you onwards.
That’s a lovely picture of both of you. Really good to see.
All the best
Brian
I’ve just learned of your stroke, I haven’t been able to follow chaos manor much those past few months.
I know a little about strokes, my mother-in-law has had four over the past six years. What I’ve seen is, if it’s treated immediately, while the symptoms are very distressing in the immediate aftermath, you do recover, a lot faster than you might fear early on.
Hang on, Jerry hang on!
This atheist will not pray, but I ‘m sure thinking of you, wishing you well, and I’m confident you’ll recover and never lose the sharp mind I so love.
Sitting up, taking nice deep breaths. First steps to a full recovery! Anyone who can withstand raygun assaults to the brain can whip a stroke. God Bless and praying for a Happy New Year for the Pournelle family.
I only recently discovered your work this year and have become a fan ever since.
Wish you a speedy recovery and a Merry Christmas.
I’ve been a fan since the sixties. May you recover and continue to enjoy life. Merry Christmas and a Happy and productive New Year.
Best wishes for a splendid recovery, Jerry! Keep on keeping on!
Please do not leave us without the voice of reason! Best thoughts. If you get well enough please get a new puppy. I wait to see pictures.
So good to see that you are improving. All the best, and Merry Christmas!
As a friend of Jerry’s I can assure the well wishers that he is one tough customer who would not surprise me if he made a FULL recovery over time. Let’s hope so.
Best of Wishes to Jerry and Roberta.
Good work Alex.
