Medical Update

Alex Pournelle reports today on Dr. Pournelle’s current health status:

As of this morning, Dad is improving still. More motor skills, more speech improvement (at least to me). He is also annoyed at his inability to express himself by typing, though I suspect he will be back to banging away pretty quick, at least with 2 fingers.

Tomorrow starts the long term intensive physical therapy and then home adaptation. Will update as that happens.

Thanks again for all the good wishes.

  1. Richard Skinner says:

    Thank you, Alex.

Personally, I am hoping that Dr. Pournelle can be convinced to take at least a short break to get well?

Hard, I know – but maybe you can snooker him into feeling that he needs to turn his incisive mind to reforming the medical establishment for the next couple of months?

In Ireland we refer to those we admire as ” a scholar and a gentleman” and that is the perfect description of Jerry Pournelle.

    To the Pournelle family,

I am happy to see that Dr Pournelle is doing better. I came across his works by sneaking books out of my father’s basement library before travelling across Canada, and I have subscribed since Daiichi when Jerry was the only one (aside from Randal Munroe) to explain the incident without hyperbole.

I also pray for a speedy and sustained recovery.

    Jerry,

Be assured of my prayers. The last several months I read through many of your books. I really have enjoyed your writing, going back to about 1985 in Byte Magazine. Your recovery will be a source of strength and encouragement for many of us a few years behind you. Remember that you try it out so we don’t have to!
