Alex Pournelle reports today on Dr. Pournelle’s current health status:
As of this morning, Dad is improving still. More motor skills, more speech improvement (at least to me). He is also annoyed at his inability to express himself by typing, though I suspect he will be back to banging away pretty quick, at least with 2 fingers.
Tomorrow starts the long term intensive physical therapy and then home adaptation. Will update as that happens.
Thanks again for all the good wishes.

Thank you, Alex.
Personally, I am hoping that Dr. Pournelle can be convinced to take at least a short break to get well?
Hard, I know – but maybe you can snooker him into feeling that he needs to turn his incisive mind to reforming the medical establishment for the next couple of months?
Again thank you for the updates.
Very pleased to hear Dr. Pournelle is recovering well.
In Ireland we refer to those we admire as ” a scholar and a gentleman” and that is the perfect description of Jerry Pournelle.
Doc, you saved us. You saved us all. Thank you.
(You know all that perseverance and courage stuff that you write so well and I can’t? Do that.)
Glad to hear the good news… Hope for a speedy recovery!
Very happy to see you are improving. Prayers for speedy recovery and homecoming. Hoping you & family have a good Christmas.
Very glad to see you doing better sir. May God’s blessings be upon you and your family this Christmas. Sending prayers for your continued recovery!
Glad to see you and your wife together.
On this Christmas we pray for your recovery and health.
Get well soon.
Jerry,
Thank god you’re getting better. You will soon get back to telling us what you’ve been thinking. We need you. We miss you.
Jerry, you have already given all of your friends everywhere the best Christmas gift possible: you have survived intact. Now your main job is to get better and get back to your life. I know that I’m not the only person looking forward to seeing you again at LASFS meetings.
Get well soon! Don’t get down, get going! Fight through this! Look forward to reading your insights soon.
Best wishes and Merry Christmas,
Scott
Wishing Dr. Pournelle a speedy recovery and a thank you for all the years of great reading. Get well sir!!
To the Pournelle family,
I am happy to see that Dr Pournelle is doing better. I came across his works by sneaking books out of my father’s basement library before travelling across Canada, and I have subscribed since Daiichi when Jerry was the only one (aside from Randal Munroe) to explain the incident without hyperbole.
I also pray for a speedy and sustained recovery.
Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. May the holidays bless you with friends and family.
Sir, I have enjoyed your work. My prayers for your swift recovery.
7 candles will be lit for you tonight. May your fight be blessed, and may your light continue to shine beyond all expectations.
A candle was lit for you in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Jerry,
Be assured of my prayers. The last several months I read through many of your books. I really have enjoyed your writing, going back to about 1985 in Byte Magazine. Your recovery will be a source of strength and encouragement for many of us a few years behind you. Remember that you try it out so we don’t have to!
Bruce
