Last Week's View Next Week's View Highlights this week:
This is a day book. It's not all that well edited. I try to keep this up daily, but sometimes I can't. I'll keep trying. See also the monthly COMPUTING AT CHAOS MANOR column, 4,000 - 7,000 words, depending. (Older columns here.) For more on what this place is about, please go to the VIEW PAGE. A Taxing Day Have done the taxes and mailed them in. Tomorrow we leave for Paris for a week. During that time there won't be much up here. There was a lot last week, in mail, and in view as well. I will have a good bit more in today's mail as I try to catch up with back mail. You can also look in at http://www.ttgnet.com/rbt/thisweek.html which is Robert Thompson's web site. He will be looking out for my site and email while I am gone.
In the column posted today I seem to have referred to Strunk and White's excellent book at Stunk and White. The context makes it clear that this was a typographical error that I should have caught, and I have notified the BYTE staff. Clearly I intended no disrespect for what I consider an indispensable book. Niven has managed to injure himself rather severely: not life threatening unless losing the ability to hike is that, and it takes time to veg out. They may be able to fix him. I sure hope so. I am hardly giving away secrets here, since everyone in NorWesCon knows what happened. An intriguing site: http://www.newcriterion.com/archive/19/apr01/sandall.htm which I actually saw and read, but now it appears to be gone. Perhaps it will come back. certainly works. And now this: The virus is W32.Badtrans.13312@mm, SARC warning is here: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.badtrans.13312@mm.html I know of at least one infection among relatively savvy users.

I will be gone until well into next week. Alex will be here with Sasha, all is well, and I have a full time house sitter. We'll be overseas and I am forbidden to try to access the web while there. Stay well. So the Internet is like glue as I try to post this. Why not?
